2017 Winter Comp Dates

The NHA have revised the starting dates for this year’s competitions:

  • U8 and U11 competitions will start on Thursday 6 April
  • U13 and U15 competitions will start on Friday 7 April
  • Women’s competition will start on Saturday 8 April
  • Men’s competition will start on Sunday 9 April

That means you’ve only got 2 more weeks of training before the season kicks off, so get your butts in gear and come down next Tuesday night!

More Players

We are still looking for a few more players across our Juniors, Mens and Womens. If you know someone who wants to play or you haven’t confirmed you are playing this season please let us know as soon as possible as we have to finalise numbers for teams.

Elite Hockey

Do you need gear?

Elite Hockey will be down at the fields this week at training. They will also be there on Tuesdays over the next month or so (not every week).

If you need some new gear, please help support Aaron and Elite Hockey. If we don’t support them they will not be there in the future and Aaron has supported our club well in the past.

Aaron has eftpos options so no need to bring cash down.

Training, River Run and Registrations

Training

Last Tuesday saw us kick off our first sessions of training for both juniors and seniors. With an absolutely outstanding turnout for both we were able to have some quality training and a fair amount of fun. Big highlight here was the Under 8’s sack races.

The club will be investing in some new equipment to keep the sessions fresh and interesting and Head Coach Michael Camacho is working with a group of senior players to make sure we use our time together effectively whilst making sure it stays fun and productive. From the signs on Tuesday, we are in for a great season of training.

River Run/Walk

We kicked off a new initiative for the club this week in the form of a river run/walk on Saturday mornings at 8am at the Nepean River. This will pick up pace but we want to encourage all payers of all sizes to come down if you can, the full circuit is approximately 7kms and you can walk it at a steady pace in just over an hour. This is another great opportunity to get fitter for the start of the season, build some healthy habits and have a great time with your hockey family. We will be meeting at the Nutrition Station on the Emu Plains side of the river (address is 71 Great Western Highway, Emu Plains). There is parking there and they have food, coffee and other beverages for after the walk/run. For those that did it today, it was a great chance to have a chat and build some fitness.

Registrations

Registrations are coming in thick and fast, if your still need to register please do so through our revamped website. If you need to dual register please email us so we can let you know the process for doing this as it is slightly different.

AGM, Website, Registration, Training and Committee Meetings

Thank you to everyone who attended our AGM last week. It was by far the best turnout for a long time with a lot of robust discussion and a great start to our season.

Congratulations to all of the new Executive team and Committee members. For the first time in a long time we filled all roles and with 8 different people so the club is definitely moving in the right direction.

The minutes from the AGM and the treasurer’s report are available for you all to read.

A big thank you to Mark Parnell for our new website, for those of you yet to check it out, it is a HUGE improvement on the old website and will help our club continue to move forward in the digital space.

That brings us nicely along to registration. Rego is now open and can be accessed through our website. You will be required to register before you can play any games as the association is provided up to date information on players who have paid their HNSW component.

This year we have also introduced a deposit for the Emu Plains fees to be paid at registration. You will have the option to pay the full fees, or alternatively pay a deposit and part payments through the season. All fees are due to be paid in full be the end of May. We pride our self on being flexible and if you are experiencing difficulties, we strongly urge you to chat to one of the executive or the competition representatives and we can try and work something out.

For our club life members, hold off and I will send you directly information on how to register without paying the Emu component.

Training kicks off this Tuesday with juniors from 6pm to 7pm and Seniors from 7pm to 9pm. We hope to see everyone down there as much as often this season.

We will also be having monthly committee meetings this season for all to come down and raise issues, ideas and improvements for our club so we can keep going forward.

The first meeting will be the 16th of March at Kingswood Sports Club. We will leave the agenda to this meeting largely open however we will be looking at establishing and defining a few new roles in the club and we would love as many people as possible to attend and help with this process.

There are a number of coaching and managing positions still available so if you are interested in any of these please let us know and we can have a chat about them.

We are also holding our registration day tomorrow at KSC from 2pm, so please head on down and meet up with your Emu family again before we get into the season proper.

Anything else, please send us an email or give us a call.
